The DG Cajón Contest is an event that aims to involve the international cajón community to share their videos in a sort of virtual cajón festival. We strongly feel that it is important that cajón players be aware of what is going on around the world, as there is a tendency in many places to perceive this instrument as a total “do it yourself” business. This is not entirely true. Sharing information and creating an international cajón playing community, instead of maintaining the current separation of Flamenco, Afro Peruvian and Afro Cuban scenes, will benefit everyone!
This first edition of the contest has proved quite successful: we received many videos, and some of them were definetively outstanding under any criteria.
Please check them on our dedicated Facebook page: there are 31 contestants, 13 of them in the Cajón Solo Category and 18 in the Group Performance.
The winner in the Group Performance section is A.O.N.C. trio from France, featuring Alex Pascau Carrasco on cajón.
The winner in the Cajón Solo category, Gustau Garcia from Spain:
Special jury award to the Igoris trio from the USA, featuring Daniel Feldman on cajón:
